Hair greying in castrated mice

چکیده
Depigmentation of hair shafts is a hallmark human aging. However, it remains unclear how aging causes to grey. Here, we found that single session plucking via waxing grey in castrated mice. Moreover, this greying continued for several cycles. Given androgen secretion decreases with age both male and female humans, the present result suggests decrease may contribute age-related greying. In addition, our experimental procedure represent an effective way generate new mouse model without need genetic engineering.

Reversal of premature hair greying in adult coeliac disease.
(1) The patient, a man, had had dark brown hair until the age of 25. Discoloration progressed until at the age of 30 the scalp hair was snow white. Other body hair was unaffected and he remained in good health. At the age of 53 he was admitted to hospital after an accident and was found to be anaemic. The results of investigations, including jejunal biopsy, were consistent with adult coeliac di...
متن کاملThe Mitochondrial m-AAA Protease Prevents Demyelination and Hair Greying
The m-AAA protease preserves proteostasis of the inner mitochondrial membrane. It ensures a functional respiratory chain, by controlling the turnover of respiratory complex subunits and allowing mitochondrial translation, but other functions in mitochondria are conceivable. Mutations in genes encoding subunits of the m-AAA protease have been linked to various neurodegenerative diseases in human...
متن کاملGenotype-dependent modification of Sarcoma 37 growth in castrated mice.
Sarcoma 37 cells grew more rapidly in castrated male mice than in controls of the same genotype; however, this effect of castration was dependent on the host genotype. Among inbred YS/Wf mice, tumor weight was increased only in castrated yellow Ay/a males and not in the comparable black a/a males. In contrast, mean tumor weight was increased in both yellow Avy/a and black a/a castrated males of...

متن کاملTamoxifen prevents bone loss in castrated male mice.
The selective estrogen receptor modulator tamoxifen was administered to intact and castrated male mice, and its effects on tibial bones and circulatory calcium, phosphate and testosterone were compared with controls and castrated animals. Tamoxifen in a dose used in humans for treatment of breast cancer decreased the weight of seminal vesicles, an organ which is highly sensitive to the androgen...
